Hi, I'm Matt!
Your Waikiki surf instructor.
I have been teaching surf for over 15 years and am certified in surf instruction and CPR. I have a huge love for the ocean and surfing the big waves which I have sought all around the world. It brings me absolute joy to teach others my passion and to watch my students enjoy their experience in the water with me. I am located in Honolulu and can't wait to catch waves with you!

WHAT TO EXPECT
Surfing is a really fun sport that requires some basic knowledge. At Shaka Surfing Academy our lessons are all formatted the same way and depending on your skill level we will adjust the class. To get you ready for the water in Waikiki, we follow a few steps before going in!
Land Lesson
Our lessons always start with land training where we'll go over everything you need to know from laying on your board to the pop-up!
Water Lesson
Next we'll get in the water and go through all of the things we learned during land training.
Practice
Once we've walked through everything once more, we'll start to practice paddling and feeling for the wave.
Catching Waves!
And then, it's time to catch waves! This is usually the best part of the lesson and most often than not, leaves everyone hooked!
